An estimate: a full year of tax is computed under Korea's 2026 tax law (basic rates revised in 2023) and the rates above, then divided by 12. The income tax your employer withholds each month follows the National Tax Service's simplified withholding table, so it may differ by tens of thousands of won. Child tax credits and year-end settlement deductions are not included.

What this tool does

A Korea-based calculator: enter a gross annual salary, the monthly tax-free meal allowance included in it, and the number of dependants (1 to 5, including yourself) to see expected monthly take-home pay, the annual total, and an itemized list of what goes to national pension, health insurance, long-term care insurance, employment insurance, income tax and local income tax under Korean rules. Use it to turn a job offer into a monthly figure or to sanity-check the deductions on a Korean payslip. Default rates are for 2026 and can be changed under 'change the rate basis'.

How it is calculated

The monthly gross (annual ÷ 12) minus the tax-free meal allowance (capped at 200,000 won a month) is the base for both social insurance and tax. The employee shares are then applied: national pension 4.75% (half of the 9.5% rate for 2026; the income base is held between a floor of 400,000 and a cap of 6.37 million won), health insurance 3.595% (half of 7.19% for 2026), long-term care at 12.95% of the health premium (the 2025 ratio), and employment insurance 0.9%. Income tax is not looked up in the simplified withholding table; a full year is computed instead. From the taxable salary, the earned income deduction (capped at 20 million won), a year of insurance premiums and the personal deduction (1.5 million won per person) are subtracted to get the tax base, the basic rates (6% to 45%, eight brackets) are applied, the earned income tax credit is subtracted, and the result is divided by 12. Local income tax is 10% of income tax. For example, 50 million won with a 200,000 won meal allowance and 1 dependant gives a monthly gross of 4,166,667 won minus pension 188,417, health 142,602, long-term care 18,467, employment 35,700, income tax 206,847 and local tax 20,685, for take-home of about 3,553,949 won. With 3 dependants it is about 3,595,199 won; with no meal allowance about 3,506,383 won. Everything is calculated in your browser.

  • Base pay: salary ÷ 12 − meal allowance (up to 200,000 won a month)
  • National pension: base pay (held between 0.4 and 6.37 million won) × 4.75%
  • Health insurance: base pay × 3.595%; long-term care is the health premium × 12.95%
  • Employment insurance: base pay × 0.9%
  • Earned income deduction: progressive 70%, 40%, 15%, 5% and 2% by bracket, at most 20 million won
  • Income tax: (taxable salary − earned income deduction − annual premiums − 1.5 million won × dependants) × basic rate − earned income tax credit, divided by 12
  • Earned income tax credit: 55% of computed tax up to 1.3 million won and 30% above; the limit is 740,000 won up to 33 million won of salary, 660,000 to 740,000 up to 70 million, 500,000 to 660,000 up to 120 million, and 200,000 to 500,000 above that
  • Local income tax: income tax × 10%

Things to know

  • The default rates come from different reference dates: pension 4.75% and health 3.595% are 2026 values, long-term care 12.95% is the 2025 ratio, and the pension cap and floor (6.37 million and 400,000 won) apply from July 2025 to June 2026. Check the latest notices from the National Pension Service and the National Health Insurance Service and enter them under 'change the rate basis'.
  • Only 200,000 won a month of meal allowance is tax-free, so a larger figure is capped. Other tax-free allowances (car upkeep, childcare) have no field and are treated as taxable.
  • Korean employers withhold monthly using the simplified withholding table and settle at year end. This tool divides a full-year estimate, so it can differ from monthly withholding by tens of thousands of won.
  • Dependants include yourself: 1 if single, 3 with a spouse and one child. Five or more is counted as 5.
  • Above 6.37 million won of taxable monthly pay, the pension stays at 302,575 won a month (6.37 million × 4.75%).
  • Year-end items such as child tax credits or card, insurance and medical deductions are not included. With children, real tax is lower.
  • Bonuses concentrated in one month raise that month's withholding, so monthly amounts can differ from this estimate.

Frequently asked questions

What is take-home pay on 50 million won?

With a 200,000 won meal allowance and 1 dependant, about 3.554 million won a month and about 42.65 million won a year. Social insurance takes about 385,000 won a month and income plus local tax about 228,000 won. With no meal allowance it is about 3.506 million won.

Why is more national pension deducted in 2026?

Korea's 2025 pension reform raises the contribution rate from 9% to 9.5% in 2026 and then by 0.5 percentage points a year to 13%. Employer and employee split it, so the employee share went from 4.5% to 4.75%.

Do I count myself as a dependant?

Yes. The calculator takes the count including yourself and applies a 1.5 million won personal deduction per person. More dependants shrink the tax base and lower income tax.

Why does my payslip differ?

The kind and amount of tax-free allowances, the employer's withholding table option (80, 100 or 120%), bonus timing and when new rates apply all differ. Your payslip is the authority; this result is an estimate.

How do I see after-tax annual salary?

The 'about ○○ won a year' line is monthly take-home × 12. Year-end settlement refunds or extra payments change the actual annual amount.

An estimate based on the rates written in the tool, under Korean rules; not tax or labor advice. Rates and tax law may change; check the National Tax Service withholding table and the pension and health insurance notices.
